Second full-length album by American band Christian Death, “Catastrophe Ballet” marks a pivotal turning point in the trajectory of the group led by Rozz Williams, signalling a decisive evolution from the rawer post-punk approach of their debut towards a far more romantic, elegant and deeply theatrical sound, laying the groundwork for what would come to define the more refined side of gothic rock.

Originally released in 1984, the album also reflects a near-complete transformation in the band’s line-up with the addition of Valor Kand, whose influence proved crucial in shaping a more melodic, immersive and richly textured sound, with compositions that embrace surrealism, decadent aesthetics and a far broader artistic sensibility, establishing “Catastrophe Ballet” as one of the foundational works of the global gothic scene.

This reissue restores the album with fully remastered sound and artwork, also including the previously unreleased bonus track “Beneath His Widow” featuring vocals by Rozz Williams, allowing this essential classic to be rediscovered in its full original scope.
