Striking debut album by Devious Lust, the Paris-based atmospheric black metal project that rises from the catacombs with a vision as unsettling as it is ceremonial, a dark and subverted liturgy where desire replaces faith and the body becomes both altar and sacrifice... conceived and executed entirely by Alastor (Dernier Souffle, Temple of Baal, Glorior Belli...), “Carnal Liturgy” explores the rawest margins of atmospheric black metal and inhabits them as a prolonged, dense and suffocating rite, libertine in its impulse, where each passage seems to open a new threshold into a universe of carnal devotion, submission, ecstasy and the dissolution of identity... enveloping and solemn guitars, deliberate tempos, atmospheres heavy with incense and tension, and vocals shifting between ritualistic whispers and raw outbursts give shape to a work that unfolds like a black mass, slow and absorbing, more focused on immersion than aggression and closer to trance than immediate impact, an album not meant to be merely listened to, but crossed through, leaving behind an uneasy and persistent mark, a sign engraved for those initiated into the same domains of ritual darkness evoked by names such as Deathspell Omega, Svartidauði, Misþyrming, Aosoth or Funeral Mist.
A unique edition, strictly limited to only 66 hand-numbered copies, “Carnal Liturgy” is presented in a meticulously designed oversized 4-panel digifile, carefully handcrafted from heavyweight cardboard and finished with an elegant soft-touch matte lamination, conceived to reinforce the physical and ritual dimension of the object... the edition also includes a printed cardboard sleeve to protect the CD, along with a download card granting access to the digital version of the album, completing a piece conceived as an essential part of the rite, where object and music merge into a single devotional experience.
