Thirty years after their formation, Finland's Festerday finally unleash their first full-length, “Iihtallan”, a genuine celebration of the dirtiest, most old-school, crushing and visceral death metal. Reunited in 2013, once again under the guidance of Teemu Saari and Timo Kontio of the brilliant ...And Oceans, the quintet draw here on the essence of old-school Scandinavian death metal, delivering a collection of thick, razor-sharp riffs, punishing rhythms and a rotten atmosphere that reeks of that unmistakable late-eighties European basement sound.

Festerday need no gimmicks to make “Iihtallan” utterly addictive: buzzsaw guitars, devastating tempo changes, blast beats, sinister melodies and the cavernous vocals of Mathias Lillmåns combine with occasional forays into black metal, punk and doom, adding further depth to a direct and remarkably effective approach. From the crushing “Edible Excrement” to the ferocious “Let Me Entertain Your Entrails”, via the catchy “Your Saliva My Vagina”, the album delivers a veritable feast of Finnish old-school death metal.
