Coma

Last copies of the stunning first edition in a digisleeve, also including a 12-page booklet, of “Coma”, the spectacular fourth full-length studio album from Portuguese outfit Gaerea, a release that marks another turning point in the band’s career as, following the overwhelming intensity of “Mirage”, they once again push beyond their own boundaries to take their sound into broader, more ambitious territory.

Without in any way abandoning the sheer violence of pure black metal, Gaerea expand their sonic horizons here with more accessible song structures, a far more pronounced melodic dimension, clean vocals set against their trademark tortured screams, and passages of breathtaking beauty, shaping an album where fury and vulnerability remain in constant tension, whilst the powerful production allows even the most devastating moments to breathe and unfold at their own unhurried pace.

“Coma” thus stands as the testament to a band in the midst of a profound transformation, determined to challenge the boundaries of extreme metal without sacrificing an ounce of intensity, an essential release for those drawn to bold, emotionally charged music that dares to transcend the conventions of contemporary black metal.
